Oxfordshire County Council to discuss accepting the Secretary of State’s invitation to prepare or revise the South Oxfordshire Local Plan

At the Oxfordshire County Council meeting at 10.30 on the 11th February, the Council will be discussing the following motion

In the event of the receipt of an invitation by the Secretary of State to prepare or revise the South Oxfordshire Local Plan pursuant to powers under section 27A of, and paragraph 7B of Schedule A1 to, the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, Council is RECOMMENDED to accept such an invitation subject to satisfactory assurances being received in relation to the recovery of its costs.

Our view is that it would undermine local democracy if a Conservative government were to transfer the Local Plan from a council whose previous Conservative administration were democratically out-voted in last years elections and where the new cross-party council were given a clear mandate to look at the local plan again. It would therefore be inappropriate for OCC to pass this resolution.

We would urge all residents to make their own views known either by sending them to the Council in advance or asking to speak at the meeting. You can find details on how to get involved on the Council’s website here. Alternatively, you should write to Councillor Les Sibley (Chairman) – les.sibley@oxfordshire.gov.uk, Councillor John Howson (Deputy Chairman) – john.howson@oxfordshire.gov.uk and Deborah Miller (Support officer) – deborah.miller@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
